Corporate Christmas Party Venues in Tynemouth

Tynemouth is a village, not a conference town, and that shapes the festive party market here. There is one hotel with genuine function suites, a cluster of sports clubs with big rooms a few streets inland, and a Front Street full of bars that will give you a private area rather than a room of your own.

The town also has less capacity than it once did. When the Inn Collection Group rebuilt the old Park Hotel as The Tynemouth Castle Inn, the ballroom did not come back, the space going to bedrooms and an ice cream parlour. It is still useful for a festive outing, with 72 rooms and free parking, but a large table there is a meal out, not a party.

The Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel on Grand Parade is the first call for anything formal. It has four function spaces plus a refurbished roof terrace, quotes catering for up to 250 guests, and has a dedicated events team. The brasserie opens seven days a week from the end of November for festive lunch and dinner, and the hotel runs its own Christmas party nights alongside private bookings. Crucially the bedrooms are in the same building, so colleagues travelling in from Northumberland or Durham are not hunting a taxi at eleven. Events team: 0191 293 6666.

Best for: Best for a larger, more formal party wanting a proper function suite with bedrooms under the same roof.

Percy Park RFC

The largest room in the area is not a hotel. Percy Park RFC has played on Preston Avenue since 1896, and its clubhouse takes up to 350 people, seating around 300 at long tables or 200 at rounds. It can run as one space or be partitioned, has two stocked bars, a PA system, lift access and a balcony, and offers catering and a disco in-house. It also has ample free parking, which in Tynemouth is close to a luxury. Ask for the clubhouse manager on 0191 257 5710.

Best for: Best for the biggest headcount, a flexible layout and free parking for the whole team.

Tynemouth Cricket Club

A few yards along the same run of sports grounds, Tynemouth Cricket Club hires out Bar 1847 to members and non-members alike. It holds around 100, catering can be arranged, and the balcony looks over the outfield. Two conditions: a booking fee secures the date, and you cannot bring your own drink, with toast wines ordered through the club. Enquire on 0191 257 6865.

Best for: Best for a mid-sized party of around a hundred with your own bar and a straightforward buffet.

Tynemouth Golf Club

Tynemouth Golf Club at Spital Dene has been going since 1913 and is the useful middle option, calmer than a pub back room and less expensive-feeling than a hotel ballroom. The clubhouse has bar, lounge and dining areas plus a patio over the course, and caters to requirements rather than pushing one package. It also courts business enquiries for workshops and client presentations, so a daytime session then a festive dinner in the same building is a realistic ask. Call 0191 257 4578.

Best for: Best for a sit-down festive dinner with a meeting or away-day bolted onto the front of it.

Crusoe's on Longsands

For exclusive hire with a sense of occasion, Crusoe's hands over the whole beach kitchen from 6.30pm to midnight. The party package covers 70 to 120 seated guests with a hot buffet, a licensed bar and a DJ and compere included, at £32 a head at the time of writing plus a deposit. Being on the sand with the North Sea outside the windows in December is something no other venue here can offer. Call 0191 296 4152.

Best for: Best for exclusive hire with a wow factor, on the beach rather than in a ballroom.

The Greenhouse at Tynemouth Park

The Greenhouse sits in Tynemouth Park looking across the Victorian boating lake towards the sea. A licensed bar and kitchen by day, it opens evenings for private parties and live music, offering room hire alone or a buffet package. Their own advice is to book early for Christmas. Best for: Best for a smaller, quirkier party that should not feel like a hotel function room.

Front Street: private areas, not private rooms

If your team is 15 to 40 strong and would rather be on Front Street, think in terms of a reserved area. Pleased to Meet You at number 29 hires a private area seven days a week, day or evening, and can supply a projector, screen and microphone, with a DJ or singer at extra cost, useful if the party doubles as an end-of-year round-up.

The Salutation at number 63 takes Christmas bookings and can be hired in part or in full, with a 98-inch screen at the rear. Lola Jeans in The Arcade hires out the front section of the bar and asks for direct contact on tables over six; food runs to 9pm and the bar to midnight Sunday to Thursday, 1am Friday and Saturday.

Best for: Best for a smaller team that wants Front Street on the doorstep rather than a hired hall.

Parking, the Metro and getting home

Parking is the weak point. Spaces on Front Street and Grand Parade are limited and go early, so if the team is driving, the Preston Avenue clubs and the golf club are the sensible picks.

Everyone else should come by Metro. Tynemouth station on Station Terrace is two minutes from Front Street and a direct ride from Newcastle city centre, North Shields, Wallsend and Whitley Bay. Last services run late evening rather than into the small hours, so check the Nexus timetable before promising a 1am finish, and pre-book taxis for a December Saturday. Ask for capacity in your seating format, not the standing figure, and confirm last orders.
