About Tynemouth Cricket Club
Tynemouth Cricket Club plays from its ground on Preston Avenue, on the North Shields side of the boundary but within easy walking distance of Tynemouth village. The club dates back to 1847, a year commemorated in the name of its clubhouse bar, Bar 1847, and it competes in the North East Premier League, the top tier of the recreational game in the region. The ground sits in the cluster of sports grounds around Preston Avenue and Preston Park, alongside Percy Park RFC, and its open outfield makes it one of the larger pieces of level ground between the two towns.
Beyond league cricket the club runs a programme of community and social events through the year, with the clubhouse and bar available for private bookings and the club affiliated to the Chance to Shine cricket participation charity. Its best-known public event is the annual fireworks display each November, a fixture in the local calendar that draws families from across Tynemouth and North Shields. Tickets for that and other ticketed events are sold in advance online rather than on the gate, and the club keeps its fixtures, membership and event news updated on its own website and social channels.
