About Waves

Waves is a council-run leisure centre on The Links in Whitley Bay, occupying a prominent seafront position close to the town's beach and promenade. Operated by North Tyneside Council, it is one of five leisure facilities in the borough and part of the Contours membership network, which gives members access to hundreds of classes across all five locations. Its combination of serious swimming provision and family water attractions makes it one of the coast's most popular leisure destinations.

The centre is built around its pools, offering leisure and smaller swimming pools plus an aquatic play area, with a wave machine, slides and gradual beach-style ramp access into the water. Alongside the swimming, Waves has a Contours gym, an exercise class studio and a multi-use studio, plus a soft play area for children. The facility emphasises accessibility, with disabled parking, automatic doors, poolside hoists and accessible changing rooms.
