Best Summer Sports Camps in Tynemouth
Multi-sport camps, tennis, surfing, and holiday clubs -- verified summer sports camps in Tynemouth and North Shields, with weeks still open for the rest of the school holidays.
The summer holidays run right through to early September, and if you still have weeks to fill, an active day camp is one of the best ways to keep children busy, tire them out, and give parents a working day back. Tynemouth and North Shields are well served, with council-run centres, independent multi-sport providers, a surf school on Longsands, and tennis and team-games camps a short trip up the coast.
Here is our guide to the summer sports camps in and around Tynemouth, with several still taking bookings for the remaining weeks of the 2026 break.
Sports Camps NE, North Shields
Sports Camps NE runs a genuinely local option at Whitehouse Primary School in North Shields, so there is no long drive at either end of the day. Their multi-sport programme covers children aged 5 to 12 and mixes football, basketball, gymnastics, tennis, hockey and volleyball with ninja warrior courses, water activities and arts and crafts, so it suits children who are not solely football-mad. There is a separate Football Squirts session for younger, football-focused children. Summer camps run through the holidays to early September, and booking is handled through their ClassForKids page.
Best for: A local, mixed-sport camp within North Shields for ages 5 to 12 -- no long drive required.
The Parks Sports Centre
The Parks Sports Centre on Howdon Road is North Tyneside Council's flagship leisure centre in North Shields, with a sports hall, artificial pitches, and a full holiday activity programme. Council-run camps tend to be the most affordable option, and The Parks is a reliable choice for families who want structured, supervised activity close to home. Because sessions and prices change each holiday, check the current programme on the North Tyneside Council leisure pages or call ahead to confirm availability for the weeks you need.
Best for: Affordable, council-run holiday activities with a sports hall and pitches in North Shields.
Longsands Surf School
Few places can offer a summer camp on an award-winning beach. Longsands Surf School, based at the Surf Shack on Longsands, runs group lessons for children through the summer, with all instructors qualified lifeguards and wetsuits and boards provided. Alongside surfing there is stand-up paddleboarding for those who want to try flat-water sessions. It is not a full-day, drop-off camp in the same way as the multi-sport providers, but for a morning or an afternoon of proper coastal activity it is hard to beat, and it makes a memorable one-off during the holidays.
Best for: Genuine surf coaching on Longsands, with lifeguard instructors and all kit provided.
NET 360 CIC Tennis Camps
NET 360 CIC is a community tennis organisation running holiday camps in Whitley Bay, a short journey up the coast from Tynemouth. Camps are open to a wide age range, from 5 up to 16, and combine proper tennis coaching -- technical, tactical and physical -- with multi-sports, table tennis, street racket and team games, so quieter afternoons are broken up with variety. Members and sibling discounts are available. Dates and prices vary by holiday, so email the team directly to check what is running for the remaining summer weeks.
Best for: Tennis-led holiday camps for ages 5 to 16 in nearby Whitley Bay, with multi-sports mixed in.
The Coastal Club, Monkseaton
The Coastal Club runs its camps at Valley Gardens Middle School in Monkseaton, led by qualified teaching staff. The style is deliberately active -- traditional PE and team games alongside dodgeball, capture the flag and creative activities -- and the club is upfront that children go home tired. It is a good fit for primary-aged children who enjoy games and challenges rather than a single sport, and sibling discounts help if you are booking more than one child.
Best for: Active, teacher-led camps in Monkseaton for children who like games and challenges.
East End Youth & Community Centre
East End Youth & Community Centre on George Street in North Shields has been running since 1964 and puts on a popular summer programme. Alongside its youth club sessions it offers kickboxing, archery and karate, with a fully marked sports hall for five-a-side football, badminton and basketball. It caters for ages 6 up to 25, making it a useful option for older children and teenagers who have outgrown the primary-school multi-sport camps.
Best for: A long-established North Shields youth centre with a summer programme for ages 6 to 25.
Next Generation NE Sport, Whitley Lodge
Just up the coast in Whitley Bay, Next Generation NE Sport runs its camps at Whitley Lodge First School -- the nearest of its venues to Tynemouth, and an easy trip along the coast road. The summer programme covers children aged 5 to 13, running from 8:45am to 3:30pm across all six weeks of the holidays from the week beginning Monday 20 July, so it is one of the few nearby camps still running full weeks right through to the start of September. A typical day mixes football, tag rugby, cricket, gymnastics, archery and volleyball. To check availability for the remaining weeks, call the team on 07885 379410 or book through the Next Generation website.
Best for: A full-day camp for ages 5 to 13 at Whitley Lodge, running all six summer weeks -- a short trip up the coast.
A Note on Swimming and Water
If your child would rather be in the pool, Tynemouth Pool on Preston Road runs Learn to Swim lessons and family swim sessions through the holidays, and its free No Limits programme on Friday afternoons is a good no-cost way to burn off energy. Combined with the beaches at Longsands and King Edward's Bay, there is plenty to keep water-loving children happy without booking a formal camp at all.
Booking Tips
Popular camps sell out in the final weeks of the holidays, so book early. Check ages carefully, as several providers split younger and older children into different sessions, and ask whether staff are DBS-checked and first-aid-trained and whether lunch is included. For beach and outdoor sessions, a spare set of clothes is always worth packing.
