About Tynemouth Surf Co

Tynemouth Surf Co occupies Unit 1 of Palace Buildings on Grand Parade, on the seafront above the award-winning Longsands Beach. Established in 1995 by surfer Stephen Hudson, it is the longest-running surf school in the North East and is now run by his son Louis Thomas-Hudson, a former captain of the Team GB junior surf squad. The shop was voted Best Surf School in the UK at the 2017 UK Pro Surf Tour awards, and its clifftop position gives it a front-row view of the surf breaking on Longsands below.

The business is a one-stop shop for surfing, combining a well-stocked retail store, equipment hire and a surf school. The shop carries surfboards, wetsuits, fins, leashes, wax and board storage, while services include lessons for all abilities, board and wetsuit hire, repairs and expert advice. Its coaches teach beginners and improvers alike, making the most of Longsands as one of the region's most consistent and accessible surf beaches.
