Preston Playing Field
A well-used set of council playing fields at Monks Wood between Tynemouth Pool and North Shields Rugby Club, home to grassroots football pitches used by local junior clubs.
About Preston Playing Field
Preston Playing Field is a set of North Tyneside Council playing fields at Monks Wood in North Shields (NE30 2UD), sitting between Tynemouth Pool and North Shields Rugby Club and within easy reach of Tynemouth village. Its grass pitches are a mainstay of the local grassroots game, hosting junior and youth football throughout the season, including sides run by North Shields Juniors AFC, with parking available nearby at John Spence Community High School.
As an open council facility rather than a private ground, Preston is one of the places Tynemouth families are most likely to end up on a Saturday or Sunday morning, whether watching a child's match or having an informal kickabout on the open grass. It is a short trip inland from the seafront and, together with the pool and rugby club alongside it, forms one of the area's main clusters of outdoor sport.
