About Joy of the Orient

Joy of the Orient is a pan-Asian restaurant and takeaway on Tynemouth Road in North Shields, close to Northumberland Park, the Fish Quay, and Tynemouth Priory. Refurbished in 2014, it brings together Chinese, Japanese, and Malaysian cooking under one roof, drawing on recipes the family says have been passed down over three generations. The kitchen is led by a chef with more than forty years of experience, and the restaurant places emphasis on fresh, daily preparation and traditional wok cooking.

Alongside its dine-in service, the restaurant caters for private parties, with rooms accommodating up to around thirty guests and buffet options available. Takeaway and delivery are offered across the NE30 area and surrounding streets, with free delivery on a minimum order within a mile of the restaurant. The wide-ranging menu covers familiar favourites such as chicken chow mein and spring rolls through to Japanese and Malaysian dishes, making it a versatile local option for both eating in and taking away.
