From early morning sourdough on Front Street to a full English with sea views on Longsands, here is where to find the best breakfast in Tynemouth.

Tynemouth.live·

Tynemouth is well known for its brunch scene, but breakfast here goes beyond the mid-morning crowd. Whether you want a proper fry-up before a dawn surf, freshly baked sourdough with your first coffee of the day, or a leisurely hotel breakfast overlooking the sea, the village and its beaches have you covered.

Here is where to find the best breakfast in Tynemouth.

Best for: Looking for late-morning options? See our guide to the best brunch in Tynemouth for places that shine from 10am onwards.

Toast at the Coast

Toast at the Coast on Front Street is one of Tynemouth's earliest risers, with a toast hour running from 7.30am to 8.30am every day the cafe is open. Part cafe, part bakery, part bar, it bakes its own sourdough on site and the breakfast menu makes the most of it. Expect steak and eggs, Northumberland kippers, smashed avocado with halloumi and cherry tomatoes on toasted sourdough, and focaccia eggy bread.

The granola bowls, salmon and eggs, and breakfast-filled bagels cater for lighter appetites. The space is dog-friendly and has a relaxed, neighbourhood feel that suits an early start. Open Wednesday to Sunday.

Best for: The earliest breakfast on Front Street. Freshly baked sourdough and a proper morning menu from 7.30am.

Cullercoats Coffee Co

Cullercoats Coffee Co has brought its well-regarded Cullercoats operation to a second site on Front Street, with views towards the Priory ruins and the coast. The breakfast menu is extensive and covers all bases: full English, bacon and sausage stotties, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, avocado on toast, American buttermilk pancakes, eggs Benedict, and grilled kippers.

The coffee is superb, as you would expect from a dedicated roastery cafe, and there are good vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options throughout. It is a strong choice for anyone who wants a proper cooked breakfast with specialty coffee rather than one or the other.

Best for: The full range. Everything from a traditional fry-up to kippers and pancakes, with excellent coffee.

The View

The View sits right on Longsands Beach and opens at 8.30am every day, making it one of the best spots on the coast for an early breakfast with a view. The kitchen makes everything fresh to order and the portions are generous. You can go for a traditional full English, healthy granola or Scotch porridge, peppered mackerel, or a breakfast sandwich with your choice of fillings.

The coffee is taken seriously here too, with a head barista calibrating the espresso daily. Sitting at one of the window tables with a flat white and a view down the length of Longsands is about as good as a weekday morning gets.

Best for: Beach-level breakfast from 8.30am. Generous portions and possibly the best morning view in Tynemouth.

Allard's Lounge

Allard's Lounge at 74-75 Front Street opens at 8.30am Sunday to Thursday, with food served from 9am and breakfast available until 11.45am. The breakfast stottie is a local favourite, letting you choose three fillings, and the rest of the morning menu has a relaxed, diner-like quality that reviewers often compare to an American breakfast experience, right down to the free coffee refills.

The dog-friendly bar area is a good option for walkers heading out along the coast, and the more formal restaurant space suits a slower start. Allard's opens early enough to catch the before-work crowd, which is unusual on Front Street.

Best for: Breakfast stotties, free coffee refills, and a dog-friendly bar. Open early on Front Street.

Crusoe's

Crusoe's on the Longsands promenade is many people's first thought when they think of breakfast in Tynemouth, and for good reason. The location is unbeatable — you are eating right on the beach, with surfers paddling out and the headland beyond. The breakfast menu is straightforward and well executed: full English, eggs on toast, bacon sandwiches, and toasties, alongside good coffee and fresh juices.

Crusoe's is not trying to be fancy; it is a beach cafe doing the basics well in a setting that would make any meal taste better. Dogs are welcome on the terrace, which is heated in cooler months.

Best for: The classic Longsands breakfast. Beachside, dog-friendly, and reliably good.

The Grand Hotel — The Brasserie

For a more refined start to the day, The Grand Hotel's Brasserie restaurant serves breakfast with views overlooking Longsands Beach and the North East coastline. The spread includes a buffet of fruit, yoghurt, juices, and cereals alongside a cooked-to-order menu with a good selection of hot dishes made from quality produce.

You do not need to be a hotel guest to eat here, though booking is advisable. The setting inside the grand Victorian dining room, with light pouring in from the seafront windows, makes this the most elegant breakfast option in Tynemouth. It is a particular treat for visitors staying at the hotel who can wake up, walk downstairs, and start the day properly.

Best for: The smartest breakfast in Tynemouth. Victorian dining room, sea views, and a full cooked-to-order menu.

Laneway & Co

Laneway & Co on Front Street opens from 7am, making it one of the earliest coffee options in the village. While it is better known for brunch, the early opening means you can grab excellent specialty coffee and lighter breakfast items — house-made granola, porridge with spiced apples, and pastries — well before the brunch rush begins.

If you are catching an early Metro or heading for a morning swim, Laneway is the place for a quick, quality start without the full sit-down.

Best for: Specialty coffee from 7am. The early bird's choice on Front Street.

What to Know

Tynemouth's breakfast scene divides roughly into two areas. Front Street in the village centre has the widest choice, with Toast at the Coast, Cullercoats Coffee Co, Allard's Lounge, and Laneway & Co all within a few minutes' walk of each other. Down on the beach, Crusoe's and The View offer the views and the fresh air, while The Grand Hotel bridges the two with its seafront position and formal dining.

For the earliest start, Toast at the Coast (from 7.30am) and Laneway & Co (from 7am) are your best options. If you want a cooked breakfast with all the trimmings, Cullercoats Coffee Co and The View both deliver generous portions and a full menu.

Parking on Grand Parade fills quickly on sunny mornings, especially in summer. Tynemouth Metro station is right on Front Street and is the easiest option if you are coming from further afield.
