North Tyneside Register Office

North Tyneside Council's register office at Maritime Chambers in North Shields, where deaths in North Tyneside (including Tynemouth) are registered by appointment, usually within five days.

About North Tyneside Register Office

North Tyneside Register Office, at Maritime Chambers on Howard Street in North Shields, is North Tyneside Council's registration service for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships. A death that occurs in North Tyneside — which includes Tynemouth and North Shields — is registered here, by appointment, so you need to book before attending; a death should normally be registered within five days unless it has been referred to the coroner.

At the appointment the registrar records the death and issues the death certificate (there is no fee to register, but certified copies cost £12.50 each and it is worth asking for several, as banks, insurers and the probate process often each require one). The registrar can also tell you about the government's free Tell Us Once service, which reports a death to most central and local government departments in a single step. A death is registered in the district where the person died.
