Record Fairs & Vinyl in Tynemouth
Crate-digging around Tynemouth: the vinyl stalls at Tynemouth Market, the pop-up fair at nearby Monkseaton, and the record shops a short Metro ride away.
Tynemouth is better known for its priory and its market than for a dedicated record fair, but if you know where to look there is plenty of vinyl to be found on the doorstep, and more a short ride away. Here is where to dig.
Tynemouth Market
The famous weekend flea market inside Tynemouth's Victorian Metro station (NE30 4RE) is not a collectors' record fair as such, but among its 150-plus traders there are reliably a handful of vinyl and vintage-music stalls. Running every Saturday and Sunday, it is one of the most enjoyable places on the coast to browse for records without a special trip, and the station setting is a treat in its own right. Stallholders vary week to week, so treat it as a lucky-dip rather than a guaranteed haul.
The Monkseaton pop-up fair
For an actual fair, the nearest is a short hop up the coast at the Left Luggage Room inside Monkseaton's restored station (NE26 3NR), where the Pop-Up Record Shop runs occasional vinyl fairs in a characterful micropub setting. Dates are irregular, so follow the venue for the next one, and see our Whitley Bay record guide for more on the coast's vinyl scene.
Further afield
Tynemouth is on the Metro, so the region's strongest cluster of record shops is only a short ride away in Newcastle, including Reflex, Beatdown Records, RPM Music and Vinyl Guru, with 586 Records across the river in Gateshead. There are recurring collectors' fairs on Newcastle's Quayside and in the Durham area, plus the Roker Records fair over at Cleadon near South Shields.
We have gathered them all, with venues, organisers and how to check the latest dates, in our regional guide to record fairs and vinyl shops in the North East.
