North Tyneside 10K 2027: Easter Sunday race past Tynemouth Priory is already full

The North Tyneside 10K Road Race takes place on Easter Sunday, 28 March 2027, sending runners along the river and past the headland at Tynemouth. Entries opened in late September, and anyone who was hoping to sign up later may have missed out: the official entry page now lists the race as closed and sold out.

The route

The race starts at 10am from The Parks Sports Centre on Howdon Road in North Shields. From there the course heads along the working Fish Quay, passes Tynemouth Priory and Castle and follows the coast north to finish at St Mary's Lighthouse. It is a route that shows off the river mouth and the coastline at their best, and it is one of the reasons the council counts the 10K among its flagship events.

Councillor Charlie Gray, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, described it as "a fantastic opportunity for people of all abilities to get active while enjoying some of the best views our coastline has to offer."

Entry details

The 2027 race is open to over-16s only, and the organisers say runners should be able to finish within 1 hour 30 minutes. They also note the course is not suitable for unassisted wheelchair users. Entry was priced at £25.

When we checked on 7 October, the entry page carried the message that entries were closed because the limit or the closing date had been reached. As the published closing date is not until 26 February 2027, that suggests the field has already filled.

Watching on the day

Even without a number, Easter Sunday is a good morning to be in Tynemouth. The Priory headland is a natural spot to cheer runners through before they head north towards the lighthouse.
