EV Charging Points in Tynemouth
Zest rapid chargers at Beaconsfield, metro station charging, and pool car park units -- where to charge an electric car in and around Tynemouth.
Tynemouth's EV charging infrastructure has improved significantly thanks to a partnership between the North East Combined Authority and Zest, which has brought new fast chargers to key locations including the seafront. Here is where to find them.
Rapid and Fast Charging
Zest at Beaconsfield Car Park, 1 Grand Parade, Tynemouth, NE30 4JF -- 2 devices with speeds up to 50 kW DC and 43 kW AC (Type 2 Mennekes). Open 24 hours. Part of the North East Combined Authority's rollout of 40 new fast-charging EV spaces across the region. Contactless payment via the Zest app or card. Right on the seafront, within walking distance of Front Street, Long Sands, and the Priory.
Best for:
Beaconsfield is the most useful charger in Tynemouth for visitors -- seafront location, 24-hour access, and rapid DC speeds that can add around 80 miles of range in 30 minutes.
Metro Station Chargers
Wattif network at Tynemouth Metro Station, NE30 4RE -- 3 devices, 3 connectors. Useful for commuters who park at the station and catch the Metro into Newcastle. Charging while you work is a practical way to keep topped up without a dedicated trip.
Other Public Chargers
Evolt Network at Tynemouth Pool Car Park -- 2 devices, 5 connectors. Handy if you are using the outdoor pool or visiting the nearby parks.
Evolt Network at Norfolk Street Car Park, North Shields -- 1 device. A short drive from Tynemouth village if the other chargers are occupied.
Nearby Rapid Charging
For faster speeds or if Tynemouth's chargers are busy, the nearest alternatives are:
Morrisons Whitley Bay, Hillheads Road, NE25 8HN -- MFG EV Power network, rapid charger. Five minutes' drive along the coast road.
North Shields has additional chargers in town centre car parks, part of the ongoing North Tyneside Council rollout.

Home Charging
If you have a driveway or garage, a home wallbox is the cheapest way to charge -- typically 7-10p/kWh on an overnight tariff. Installation costs around £800-£1,200 before any grant.
The OZEV grant (up to £500, covering 75% of installation cost) is available for renters, flat owners, and landlords -- but ended for owner-occupiers with driveways in 2022.
The Residential Picture
Tynemouth village itself has a mix of larger Victorian and Edwardian properties (many with driveways) and smaller terraced streets (without). North Tyneside Council's Zero Emission Vehicles Strategy recognises the need for publicly available charging hubs at off-street locations, and the Zest partnership is a direct result of that.
The broader North Tyneside rollout is targeting 40 new fast-charging EV spaces across 18 sites, including town centre car parks, coastal sites, country parks, and leisure centres. More chargers are expected to come online throughout 2026.
