Best Cocktail Bars in Tynemouth

PTMY, Lola Jeans, and Allard's Lounge — Front Street has a genuine cocktail scene. Here are the best spots.

Tynemouth.live·

Tynemouth's Front Street packs more cocktail bars into a few hundred metres than most coastal villages manage in their entire postcode. Between PTMY, Lola Jeans, and Allard's Lounge, you have three dedicated cocktail-forward venues within a two-minute walk of each other — plus several pubs that have raised their game with proper drinks lists. Here is where to go.

Pleased to Meet You (PTMY)

Pleased to Meet You at 29 Front Street is the Tynemouth outpost of the much-loved Newcastle cocktail bar. The formula translates well to the coast: premium spirits, freshly crafted cocktails, a gin-focused bar, and a relaxed all-day atmosphere.

There is a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights for a livelier vibe, live singers on Sundays, and an all-day brunch menu if you want to ease into the weekend. The venue is dog-friendly too, which suits the coastal crowd. Open seven days a week, late into the evening.

Best for: Dedicated cocktail bar, Newcastle pedigree, weekend DJs, dog-friendly.

Lola Jeans

Lola Jeans in The Arcade off Front Street has an extensive cocktail list and classically trained staff who will create bespoke drinks to suit your taste. The decor mixes classic design with contemporary touches — think exposed brick, mood lighting, and comfortable booths.

The food menu runs to Asian-inspired dishes, burgers, and a popular weekend brunch, but many people come purely for the cocktails. It is one of the most reliably good nights out on Front Street, whether you are in for one drink or settling in for the evening.

Best for: Extensive cocktail list, bespoke drinks, Asian-inspired food, weekend brunch.

Allard's Lounge

Allard's Lounge at 74 Front Street has been a fixture since 2011. It started as a small tapas bar with a good wine list and has evolved into a proper cocktail destination, drawing on classic recipes from around the world served with the team's own flair.

The space was extended in 2015 and now offers a dog-friendly cafe-bar area and a more formal restaurant space. Mediterranean-inspired small plates and charcuterie boards make it ideal for a cocktails-and-tapas evening. Open from 8:30am daily, so coffee by morning, cocktails by evening.

Best for: Classic cocktails, tapas and charcuterie, open since 2011, all-day venue.

The Salutation

The Salutation at 63 Front Street dates back to the 18th century, with a name that nods to the 13th-century Priory monks. It has reinvented itself as a lively bar offering craft beers, cocktails, and food alongside its historical character.

This is more pub than cocktail bar, but the drinks list has moved well beyond pints and crisps. Craft beer is a particular strength, with a rotating selection from local breweries, and the cocktail menu holds its own against the dedicated bars further along the street.

Best for: Historic pub with cocktails, craft beer focus, 18th-century character.

The Gibraltar Rock

The Gibraltar Rock is perched above King Edward's Bay with panoramic sea views that no other venue on this list can match. The GIB downstairs is a coastal bar with pub grub and live events, while Tide upstairs offers seasonal British dining in a more refined setting.

The cocktail list is not the longest in Tynemouth, but drinking anything with those views elevates the experience. On a summer evening, there are few better spots on the entire North East coast.

Best for: Unbeatable sea views, coastal bar and restaurant, summer evening destination.

The Tynemouth Cocktail Crawl

Start at Allard's for Mediterranean small plates and classic cocktails. Walk two minutes to PTMY for gin-focused drinks and a livelier atmosphere. Cross the road to Lola Jeans for a bespoke creation and Asian-inspired nibbles. Finish at The Salutation or The Gibraltar Rock for a nightcap. The whole route is under five minutes' walking and covers everything from intimate tapas bars to seaside panoramas.

For an even wider selection, Whitley Bay's Park View strip is a short taxi ride south, with Al Bear, Little Lobo, and The Lough Ran adding further options.
