Whether you want your child to learn to swim, fancy early-morning lane swimming, or just need a reliable local pool for regular exercise, Tynemouth Pool on Preston Road North has been serving the community for decades.

Facilities

The pool complex includes a 25-metre lane pool for fitness and lap swimming, a separate learner pool for beginners and younger children, and a diving board for those who enjoy a bigger splash. The changing area offers single, double, and family cubicles along with baby changing facilities, accessible changing rooms, and a vanity area with hairdryers.

Swimming Lessons

Tynemouth Pool delivers swimming lessons that follow the Swim England Learn to Swim programme, taking children from their first splashes through to confident, competent swimmers. Lessons are available for all ages and abilities, with structured progression through clearly defined stages. The learner pool provides a shallow, warm-water environment ideally suited to nervous beginners and very young children.

Practical Information

The pool is operated by North Tyneside Council and can be reached by telephone on 0191 643 2900 or by email at tynemouth.pool@northtyneside.gov.uk. It sits just off the A1058 Coast Road, making it easily accessible from Tynemouth village, Cullercoats, and North Shields alike.

For families living on the coast, having a quality public pool this close to home is a genuine asset — particularly during the colder months when the sea is best admired from dry land.
