A brilliant weekend on the coast. Cullercoats Festival brings free live entertainment to the bay, the Station Market returns under the Victorian canopy, and the Stephenson Steam Railway opens for the season. Here is what is happening from Friday to Sunday.

Cullercoats Festival

Friday 13 June at Cullercoats Bay. FREE. A free community festival celebrating Cullercoats' heritage with live music, performances, food stalls, and family activities on the beach and along the bay. One of the highlights of the summer calendar on the coast.

Tynemouth Station Market

Saturday and Sunday at Tynemouth Station. FREE entry. The region's favourite weekend market returns beneath the beautiful Victorian canopy. Browse handmade jewellery, vintage fashion, ceramics, prints, and street food. Live music throughout the day.

Heritage Train Rides -- Stephenson Steam Railway Opening Day

Saturday 14 June at the Stephenson Steam Railway, North Shields. Just down the road in North Shields, the Stephenson Steam Railway opens for the 2026 season with steam-hauled rides. A wonderful family day out and a perfect companion to the Station Market.

Northumberland Miners Picnic -- Woodhorn

Friday 13 June at Woodhorn Museum, Ashington. FREE. The 160th Northumberland Miners Picnic, with brass bands, colliery banners, speeches, and community stalls. A powerful and moving annual gathering, about 40 minutes north of Tynemouth.

The Bebbanburg Market -- Bamburgh Castle

Friday 13 to Saturday 14 June at Bamburgh Castle. Vikings take over Bamburgh Castle for an atmospheric artisan market with living history, crafts, and food. A stunning Northumberland day trip.

Indian Cookery Workshop -- Blackfriars Newcastle

Saturday 14 June at Blackfriars, Newcastle. Hands-on Indian cookery in a 13th-century friary. Learn authentic techniques, with ingredients provided and a meal at the end. A short Metro ride from Tynemouth.

Relaxed Sunday Session -- Life Science Centre

Saturday 14 June at the Life Science Centre, Newcastle. A sensory-friendly session with reduced lighting and lower noise levels. Ideal for visitors who prefer a calmer environment.
